Committees

Administration/Stewardship

As the Administration/Stewardship Committee our role is to support the pastor, the staff and the members of the church to greater fulfill our mission “to know Christ and to Make him known.” Our commitment is to provide the pastor and the staff with the resources, guidance, and support they need to fulfill their duties to the church and to the congregation. We are also committed to being fiscally responsible in the planning, preparation, and execution of an annual operating budget.

Christian Education

The Christian Education Committee offers opportunities for Christian education throughout the week and on Sunday mornings with Sunday School available for all ages. We hope the lessons learned in Sunday School, Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School will equip children and adults with greater Biblical knowledge and a developing relationship with God so that they may go forth as light and salt in our world, looking for ways to serve others through our everyday work.

Community & Congregational Ministry

Coordinates Shepherd Group Leaders who will encourage contact with members on a monthly basis in some manner, in order to become aware of any special needs/concerns, i.e., illness, shut-in, loss of one via death, special physical, emotional spiritual need(s) and then relay to the pastor any concerns felt to require attention.
Acts as liaison to Community Support Ministry Groups (A.A-Redemption Group, Gutsy Grannys, TOPS, Called to Care, etc).
Coordinates congregational participation in local community outreach events (Rebuilding Waycross, Christmas Gifts to Waycross Health & Rehabilitation, Santa Claus Express, Ruskin Elementary School. Administers the Good Samaritan and Food Pantry.
Coordinates all congregational meals and receptions.
Communicate our ministry at large and coverage about members through the use of newspaper, email, Facebook, phone tree, Maintain church’s web page.

Property

It is the goal of the property committee to assure that the congregation, staff, and visitors of First Presbyterian Church Waycross are provided with a safe, comfortable, and attractive physical environment. With the help and support from our entire church family, and by showing care and respect for the property, all in our church family will have a warm and inviting facility in which to worship Christ together.

Worship

Oversight of all aspects of worship services including worship leader participants (Acolytes, liturgists, ushers, lay leaders), Communion (preparation, serving, and equipment), flowers and seasonal decorations, special worship services, use and preservation of sound and video equipment, works with pastor for pulpit supply, works with pastor and staff on choir and music programs.

Redemption Group

The Redemption Group is one of several Alcoholics Anonymous groups that meet in Waycross, Georgia. The Redemption Group is an OPEN group that meets nightly at First Presbyterian Church at 7:00 p.m. in the first classroom on the right coming in the back door of the Educational Building.

TOPs

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is the short name for TOPS Club, Inc., the original nonprofit, noncommercial network of weight-loss support groups and wellness education organization. TOPS offers tools and programs for healthy living and weight management, with exceptional group fellowship and recognition. Established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, we’ve helped millions of people live healthier lives. The local TOPS group meets on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in the choir room.

Called to Care

The mission of Called to Care is to ease the suffering of vulnerable children domestically and abroad by engaging and equipping the body of Christ in our community to minister through adoption, foster care, and missions. Called to Care’s efforts are focused on creating a community of believers who work together to fill the physical, emotional and social needs of children who are hurting and to help lessen the burden of those who are in the direct care of those children.
